Dyker Heights Christmas Lights

Updated September 22, 2026

Dyker Heights Christmas lights are private house displays in southwest Brooklyn, not a ticketed show. They go up around Thanksgiving and stay into early January. Use an hourly car: drop off on 11th, 12th, or 13th Avenue, walk the blocks, and meet the car back on an avenue.

Treat it as a neighborhood, not a venue

Nobody sells a ticket. The lights are on private houses. Keep the vehicle on the avenues, walk in, and leave driveways clear. A car circling 84th Street blocks the people who live there.

  1. 1.Book before the mid-December weekend you want
  2. 2.Give one avenue corner for drop-off and one for pickup
  3. 3.Keep the hourly window long enough for the walk and the ride back
  4. 4.Say if a stroller or walker needs a shorter loop between avenues

Where the lights are, and when they go up

Dyker Heights is residential southwest Brooklyn. The displays people come for sit on 11th to 13th Avenues between 83rd and 86th Streets. 84th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues is the block most visitors ask for. Looking is free. Each house sets its own lights, so there is no start bell. As a pattern, displays go up around Thanksgiving and stay into early January. Weekend evenings in mid-December, roughly 5 to 9 p.m., are the crowded ones. A weeknight is the same houses with more room on the sidewalk.

Drop off on the avenues, then walk the blocks

Plan the stop on 11th, 12th, or 13th Avenue, then walk the cross streets. A door-to-door stop in the middle of 84th Street sounds precise and works badly once people are on foot. Ask the chauffeur to use the avenue, point the group to the corner you named, and move the car off the block. Pickup is the same idea in reverse: you walk back, and the car is there because the booking is hourly. If someone cannot walk the whole loop, see one or two blocks, return to the avenue, and ride to the next corner.

Hourly service while everyone is on foot

Hourly service fits because the group leaves the car, walks, and needs the same car later. Starting rates are $120 an hour for a sedan, $150 for an SUV, $175 for an S-Class, and $200 for a Sprinter. The minimum is three hours: $360, $450, $525, and $600. Tolls and parking, if any, sit on the quote. A one-way floor is $130 for a sedan and $160 for an SUV, and those are minimums, not a price for every route. Use one-way only for a single drop, such as a hotel to an avenue corner, with a separate ride home. Three hours covers a shorter visit plus the rides on either side. A long Saturday walk can need more hours. There is no flat rate for the lights.

From a hotel, another borough, or an airport

A Manhattan hotel is a normal start. The ride crosses into Brooklyn and continues to Dyker Heights. You need the first address, the avenue corner, and the time you want to be there. Brooklyn residents often begin closer, from Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, or Park Slope, and still use hourly if the car should wait out the walk. After JFK, go straight to the avenues or stop at a hotel first. Put the flight number on the airport booking and keep the lights as their own hourly block unless the timing really is one continuous trip. LaGuardia and Newark are longer approaches. Read those airport pages for the meeting point, then add this stop only if the group is ready to walk after the flight.

Which vehicle, and what to send

Two or three people with coats fit a sedan. An S-Class is the same job in a quieter car, at the higher hourly rate. An SUV is the usual family choice when a stroller rides along. A Sprinter fits a group that should not split across two cars. Confirm seats before you invite the last people. Send the date, the start address, the avenue corner, how long you expect to walk, the return address, and a phone that works outside. A request is not a confirmed car until you hear back. If this night is one piece of a longer lights evening, the Christmas lights tour page lays out a Midtown-then-Brooklyn order you can price by the hour.

FAQ

Is Dyker Heights Christmas lights an official event?

No. The displays are on private houses. Viewing from the sidewalk is free. They go up around Thanksgiving and stay into early January. There is no ticket and no official gate.

Where should the car drop us?

On 11th, 12th, or 13th Avenue, then walk. The core streets are 83rd to 86th, and 84th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues is the most famous block. Do not plan a stop in the middle of that block.

How much is the hourly minimum?

Three hours. Starting totals are $360 for a sedan at $120 an hour, $450 for an SUV at $150, $525 for an S-Class at $175, and $600 for a Sprinter at $200. The quote adds tolls, parking, and any extra time.

When is the crowd lighter?

Weeknights are quieter. The busiest window is weekend evenings in mid-December, about 5 to 9 p.m. The houses are still lit. You are choosing sidewalk space, not a different display.

Can we go straight from JFK?

Yes, if the group wants that sequence. Book the airport pickup with the flight number, and use hourly if the car stays through the walk and a hotel drop afterward. If people need to check in first, split the airport ride and the lights.
